£20.99If you find most sauvignon blanc too fruity for your taste give this a go. Flinty soils (silex) make brilliant under-stated Sancerre. The citrus fruit is held in check with the minerality of the soil making a complex dry white that is the perfect accompaniment to oysters and mussels. Drinking well now but capable of aging 3 to 4 years too. -

Domaine Perraton Chrisalys Macon-Loche
£16.79This Macon-Loche is the result of blending two plots located at the bottom of the slope in the village of Loche, situated 3 km from Chaintre. Its clay-limestone terroirs, with very deep soil, rest on a vein of very hard limestone rock crossing the lower part of the Loche hill. Aged in stainless steel tanks, the wine reveals a bouquet of apricot, peach and dried fruits. Initially round and pleasing, the palate gradually becomes complex and structured, leading to a long and persistent finish with citrus flavours. -

£21.49The Perraton brothers took over the domaine from their father Rene a few years back but on our last visit, even though he was in his eighties he was hustling about keeping an eye on them. This is a tremendous wine and a total bargain. Though Rene is sadly no longer with us the boys seem to be as equally gifted as their father. Rich plush honeyed, everything you want white burgundy to be but only rarely is. -
