The nose displays refined and complex notes of clove flowers and rose aromas developing into hints of bread crumbs, yeast and citrus fruit, which as they mingle, form a lively and fresh body. On the palate, the first attack, straight and fine as an arrow is surprising, compared to the mature and concentrated nose. But this firm texture seems to act as a chisel enhancing a sumptuous wine, well-structured and fine. The aftertaste develops subtle aromas of honey and cloves giving the wine more depth and contributing to its good length. -

£167.99This is what Decanter magazine thought of this new release: Bright and lustrous with playful bubbles and a soft mousse, the wine is immediately beguiling, seductive and more approachable and charming than its immediate forebear (2008). The nose waltzes through the Viennese patisserie and then into the orchard, where red apples rejoin citric rigour and draw the taster in. The ripeness of the vintage translates into a rich, creamy texture, with energy and warmth all underwritten by a dominant but not overly domineering Pinot Noir, its savoury notes destined to take control after this first effervescent flush of youth. The finish is pure and long. A forward and confident SWC, and one to enjoy in relative youth. Drinking Window 2020 – 2035. -

£135.99This wine has scored 92+ from most critics and is drinking well already – though it will evolve over the next decade (particularly in magnum).
The first nose, subtle on the approach, is a little closed. It gradually opens with notes of fresh fruit, exotic fruits (especially pineapple) and white peach. The evolution in the glass is very discreet, barely perceptible. With aeration, there are notes of fresh butter and pastry cream that rise from the glass.
The palate is characterized by its roundness and volume while presenting a beautiful aromatic freshness. It has the breadth and length for which Pol Roger is renowned. In line with the nose, the palate has notes of pastry, which gives it a lot of character. The finish is a little tangy with hints of lemon and citrus, which leave a nice sensation of freshness and foreshadows promising ageing potentia -
