At the aromatic level, the bouquet will be complex and rich: floral notes such as violet, but also red and black fruits (strawberry, blackberry) and even spices. This is drinking very well now. -

×In Burgundy the grower is more important than where the grapes are grown. With prices going through the stratosphere, the trick is find great growers who are making wine from some of the lesser known appellations. Franck Lamargue and the village of Monthelie illustrate this perfectly. If it had Gevrey-Chambertin on the label this wine would be three times the price. This is classic perfumed, delicate yet structured pinot noir that is drinking perfectly now. -

×The Perraton brothers took over the domaine from their father Rene a few years back but on our last visit, even though he was in his eighties he was hustling about keeping an eye on them. This is a tremendous wine and a total bargain. Though Rene is sadly no longer with us the boys seem to be as equally gifted as their father. Rich plush honeyed, everything you want white burgundy to be but only rarely is. -

×Jean Pascal runs his small family domaine in the village of Puligny by meticulous traditional winemaking. With small parcels of vineyards located across 4 communes in the Cote de Beaune and a reputation for excellent valued white burgundies, his Puligny Montrachet does not dissappoint. It is wonderfully elegant, not overly oaked and retains a lovely concentration of fruit, displaying butterscotch and hazelnuts notes, and finishing with complex flavours of brioche and cinnamon.
